What are opioids?
Opioids are a drug class that includes heroin, synthetic opioids (such as fentanyl), and prescription pain relievers such as OxyContin (oxycodone), Vicodin (hydrocodone), Percocet, Actiq, morphine, and many more. Opioids interact with opioid receptors on nerve cells in the body and brain and can cause physiological dependence.
